The everyday adventures of Nolan and Griffin

Happy Birthday Jesus Party!

Today Griffin had his Christmas party at school. As Room Mom I have been working on this party since November.  Thankfully the party was a success and the parents and teachers were appreciative of my efforts. That makes it all worth while!

The class started with a book exchange.

Next each child created a Gingerbread House. I received many compliments on the craft, but I could not take the credit.  This place is every room mom’s secret!

Next we decorated party hats because no party would be ocmplete without them!

And ended our celebration of Jesus’ birthday with song and cupcakes!

Thanks to Hobby Lobby, the kids went home with “Happy Birthday Jesus” themed party favors. Score!

Next up, Valentine’s Day!

We have been so busy with many fun holiday activities. I hope to post what we have been  up to over the weekend! I just realized I never finished blogging about all of our Halloween festivites. Where does the time go?

Prescott Thankful Turkey

I love traditions particiularly at the holidays and this year we implemented a new one. The Thankful Turkey. For the last couple of weeks James, Nolan, Griffin and I have added feathers (almost) daily with a word of something we are thankful for on it. I have loved to hear what the boys are thankful for. It has led to many great discussions with the boys about what it means to be thankful,  all the different types of things we should be thankful for, how many others live with so much less, and the importance of reflecting and appreciating all we have.

The first feather Nolan wrote said he was thankful for was “Freedom” and Griffin said “God.”  I told James we must not be doing that bad of a job as parents!

Our turkey may have started without any feathers, but now we are reminded of all the things we are truly thankful for. In the middle of the hustle and bustle of our lives, it is very important to stop and remember what all we truly have.

Fall Feast!

Today was Griffin’s Fall Feast (or also known as Room Mom’s second party event).  Thankfully everything went smoothly. While I was setting up the kids were in their music class. As they walked single file back into the classroom, they were each wearing adorable Turkey hats.  There was too much cuteness in the room I must say. Oh if they could only stay this little forever.  Griffin wore his hat all the way until we got into the car.

Here are a few pictures from the festivities.

The Little Brother

As with probably most younger siblings, Griffin goes with the flow. He has to! What choice does he really have? He is dragged to soccer and baseball games, Cub Scout events, school events, and so on.  I call him my little “sidekick.” Always by my side and always such a good sport.  He really is a good sport (as you are getting ready to witness).

Griffn and Nolan have a very good relationship (most of the time of course). They play well with each other. Truly love each other. They call each other best friends. Griffin absolutely adores Nolan and wants to do every.last.thing Nolan does. Nolan rocks Griffin’s world.

All that said, Griffin comes down the stairs the other day and this video shows what we saw.  James and I could not stop laughing. I grabbed my iPhone and started recording. (Side note: I would have kept the interview going except about half a second after I stopped filming, he declared he needed to go potty right now! It is obvious as you watch).

Enjoy or laugh or feel sad and sorry for G or want to plot revenge on Nolan OR  all of the above. :)

Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch!

One day two weeks ago I decided to pull Nolan out of school a bit early and we headed to the pumpkin patch. Once again, our weekends are typically so busy we had not found the time to fit it in. With Halloween approaching and the end to pumpkin patch season, I decided why not? Unfortunately James was not able to join us. As with the State Fair, the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch was signficantly less crowded on a weekday and made for a much more enjoyable time. Last year we went to this same pumpkin patch on a Saturday and what a difference!

Hay Ride time!  This pumpkin patch has character wood cut-outs everywhere..even on the hay ride! The boys loved the hay ride so much, we rode it twice. Last year the line was so long we were not able to ride it at all. If only we could do everything during a school day! :)

Funnel cake time! Do you know this pumpkin patch also sells the famous Fletcher’s Corny dogs from the State Fair? That should tell you the “pull” this pumpkin patch has!

One of the things I found so interesting is that this pumpkin patch has multiple bounce houses (located right next to this merry go round actually) and this was more popular than anything. Takes you back to the good ole playground days doesn’t it? I had to finally pull Nolan off. (He is in the black pants in the center of the picture.) He loved it. I, on the other hand, felt sick just watching it go round and round.

So  many fun things to do!
