The everyday adventures of Nolan and Griffin

Fall Feast!

Today was Griffin’s Fall Feast (or also known as Room Mom’s second party event).  Thankfully everything went smoothly. While I was setting up the kids were in their music class. As they walked single file back into the classroom, they were each wearing adorable Turkey hats.  There was too much cuteness in the room I must say. Oh if they could only stay this little forever.  Griffin wore his hat all the way until we got into the car.

Here are a few pictures from the festivities.

Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch!

One day two weeks ago I decided to pull Nolan out of school a bit early and we headed to the pumpkin patch. Once again, our weekends are typically so busy we had not found the time to fit it in. With Halloween approaching and the end to pumpkin patch season, I decided why not? Unfortunately James was not able to join us. As with the State Fair, the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch was signficantly less crowded on a weekday and made for a much more enjoyable time. Last year we went to this same pumpkin patch on a Saturday and what a difference!

Hay Ride time!  This pumpkin patch has character wood cut-outs everywhere..even on the hay ride! The boys loved the hay ride so much, we rode it twice. Last year the line was so long we were not able to ride it at all. If only we could do everything during a school day! :)

Funnel cake time! Do you know this pumpkin patch also sells the famous Fletcher’s Corny dogs from the State Fair? That should tell you the “pull” this pumpkin patch has!

One of the things I found so interesting is that this pumpkin patch has multiple bounce houses (located right next to this merry go round actually) and this was more popular than anything. Takes you back to the good ole playground days doesn’t it? I had to finally pull Nolan off. (He is in the black pants in the center of the picture.) He loved it. I, on the other hand, felt sick just watching it go round and round.

So  many fun things to do!

G’s Fall Party and the Room Mom’s First Gig!

Including this year collectively Nolan and Griffin have been in 7 school classes. The number of classes where I have been the room mom is ZERO.  In years past I have made a great room mom “assistant” and have always helped in various roles as needed, but I knew my time was running out, and I would have to buck up and volunteer. This year ended up being the year.

My first responsbility (of many throughout the year I might add) was to plan and host the Fall Party. Luckily it does not have to be too elaborate or complicated. Keep it simple was my philosophy!

I planned a Fall craft and cookie decorating.  See? Simple!

Finding the perfect craft took careful consideration and searching. Nolan attends a Christian preschool and the school policy is that they do not celebrate Halloween.  Luckily my pumpkin was approved by G’s teachers. And can I just say I *heart* Michael’s (craft store).  Plenty of ready made crafts to choose from and all I had to do is purchase! Thank goodness considering I am NOT crafty or creative. See why I have not been a room mom before?

The teachers read a story while we set up.

Icing and decorating cookies! (Did I also mention Griffin’s preschool is a “nut free” school. Every food item has to been checked, re-checked and verified “nut free.”  Complicates things a bit.)

Notice all the sprinkles?

It was a success! The parents were appreciative and gave positive feedback!

Next up is the Fall Feast and “Happy Birthday Jesus” party (a.k.a the Christmas party, but it cannot be called that and Santa cannot be included. Once again, complicates things a bit, but I am getting the hang of it!)

Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere!

Several weeks ago Griffin and I met up with friends at the Owens Pumpkin Farm in Richardson.  Hay ride, petting zoo, pumpkin picking, and posing for pictures made for a fun morning!

Fall at the Arboretum

Pumpkins, pumpkins, everywhere! Fall is absolutely my most favorite season. Seasonal decor comes out in August in my house in anticipation. Going to the Dallas Arboretum is a MUST this time of year. My iPhone pictures do not do justice to the beauty we saw today, but you can get the idea!

My very sweet G has not been getting much blog love lately so this post is dedicated to him. My mom, Griffin and I headed there today for sightseeing and a picnic.

I have to say it felt so strange not having Nolan with us. I have so many fun memories of weekday play dates and trips to the arboretum when he was younger. Unfortunately school now interferes. <<Sigh>>. I told my mom I felt like I was cheating on Nolan by not having him with us. Hopefully we can return with the whole family in tow soon!

Although the entire garden is decorated for Fall, the pumpkin patch area takes the cake!  Four pumpkin houses (each representing character’s homes from the Cinderella story), Cinderella’s carriage, a castle, hay maze and thousands of pumpkins complete this area.

Always a tradition at the arboretum is a picnic lunch in our favorite little “secret” place overlooking White Rock Lake.  While there are lots of great places to lunch on the lawn, my mom and I stumbled upon a little secluded area several years ago and claim it each time we go. Today we were lucky enough to have it all to ourselves!  While listening to water falls and distant piano music playing from a garden cafe on the grounds, we ate. Perfection! G’s little Halloween Bear, Eek, even had his own lunch too!
