The everyday adventures of Nolan and Griffin

Halloween Crafty

Since Nolan’s second Christmas, he and I have a tradition of creating a Christmas Gingerbread House (from a kit I must admit). Last year I found a Haunted Gingerbread Kit at Target and a new tradition was added.  This was the first year we have included Griffin and he was very excited (probably because he knew candy was involved).  Regardless, we had a lot of fun and I think it turned out perfect!

The set up. I have learned quite a bit over the years on the easiest way to do this. First tip, skip assembling the gingerbread house with icing. Use a hot glue gun!

G saw me taking a picture and ran to grab his camera.

On his own, Nolan grabbed the dustbuster and started cleaning. That’s my boy!

And while we are speaking of crafting, James (and sort of, kinda Nolan) worked on a pumpkin this weekend for the Boy Scout Den Pumpkin Carving Contest on Monday. We have nothing else to do right? Nolan thought of Frankenstein and we loved the idea! Here are a few pictures of James putting on the final touches.

Here’s to being crafty (or faking it at least)!

Halloween Parade and Trick or Treating

IMG_1062IMG_1061IMG_1048

Halloween began with James (and sort of Nolan) carving a pumpkin. But before we knew it, it was time to get dressed. Our neighborhood does a Halloween parade every year to kick off trick or treating.  Lead by a Frisco fire truck, literally hundreds of children and their families parade down the main street in our neighborhood to celebrate the evening and show off their costumes.  The parade ended with a cotton candy machine, juice, cookies, and pictures on the fire truck. What a fun way to start the evening with neighbors and friends.

Eventually the crowds dispersed and on our way we went. Most of the evening we trick or treated with Nolan’s best new school buddy, Casey.  They ran from house to house so fast James and I could barely keep up! Griffin trick or treated a little, but seemed content sitting in the wagon with a lollipop and just soaking it all on. He made sure to point out all the pumpkins of course.

HERE are a few pictures of the evening. James also shot a lot of video.  Hopefully I can give him some free time soon to edit it!

Halloween Party Fun!

IMG_0993

On Saturday night we threw a little party for our college friends and their families.  It was an evening of good ole fashion fun. From cupcake decorating, bobbing for apples, a bounce house, crafts, Halloween “golf”, Silly String fights, and so on, fun was had by all!

Click HERE for pictures from the evening.

Below are three very short iPhone videos of the fun!

Pumpkin Patch FUN!!

IMG_0950

In the spirit of the Fall, we ventured out to the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch. I have heard about this particular one for several years, but we have never been. Despite the very heavy crowds, we had a great time. Pumpkins, hay mazes, bounce houses, face painting, character cut-out galore, hay rides, train rides, and plenty of food options (for example, the infamous State Fair of Texas Fletcher’s Corny Dogs) this pumpkin patch did not disappoint.

Griffin has been obsessed with pumpkins this year so you can imagine his head was spinning with all the options. Oh and the Buzz Lightyear and Woody cutouts just about put him over the edge (in a good way of course).

Nolan really wanted to purchase a pumpkin, but he only wanted a big one of course… that appeared to be around the $30-40 price range. Due to the fact we already have several pumpkins at home, we placed a $15 limit on his pumpkin choice. He searched high and low, but none seemed to be what he was looking for. When I suggested he could have the $15 instead and use it how he would like, decision was MADE. “I will take the money Mommy!”

HERE are a few pictures of our fun Fall outing!

Just a Little Fall Spirit

Fall is my favorite season. In years past our house would already be completely decorated for the season, but this year instead the decorations are packed away in boxes. On Sunday while shopping at Target I came across a Gingerbread Haunted House and thought this would help spruce up our house! So today we took a break from the chaos of moving preparation for a little Fall fun!

Getting Started

In typical Nolan fashion, he used a Lego Front Loader to dump the sprinkles into their proper place.

Griffin decided to “help.”

The finished product. Not exactly like the picture on the box, but equally as great in my opinion!
