The everyday adventures of Nolan and Griffin

State Fair of Texas Time!

An absolute must each year is going to the State Fair of Texas!  We had planned to go on a Sunday several weeks ago, but shockingly it rained that day and we were forced to find another day.  Since our weekends are usually jam packed, we ended up going late on a Thursday afternoon and it was perfect! Considerably less crowds made for a much more enjoyable fair going experience!

So sweet!  Watching Nolan in the bumper cars. Poor G did not understand why he could not ride it.

Corny dog time (and chicken fingers for the boys. What is up with that?)

Nolan begged us all night to ride “Texas Star” the signature ride and ferris wheel of the fair. We finally decided to pay the $24 for the four of us to ride. I have to admit it was the highlight!

Nolan Takes on the State Fair – 2008 Edition

IMG_3345This was Nolan’s fourth time to visit the State Fair of Texas, but this really felt like the first time he really understood what was going on. In previous years he’d pretty much do anything and was just happy to tag along. This year he was very much into the rides, games, and other assorted craziness that goes along with the Fair.

Before we even set foot inside Fair Park, Nolan was already begging to ride the bumper cars because he knew his friend Brady had already ridden them. As we all know, if it involves cars, Nolan is into it. Fortunately we entered the Fair near the car show. The first thing Nolan saw was an outdoor Nissan truck exhibit. That’s like Disneyworld for him. He repeatedly asked both of us “CAN WE GET IN THOSE TRUCKS?” so we cut through the exhibit hall to let him look at some cars.

It wasn’t too long before the lure of the bumper cars overtook him and we were off to the Midway. Along the way Nolan pointed out everything that interested him, which was practically everything we saw. There was a Ford F-150 hanging from a pole about 50 feet in the air. Nolan’s only comment was “Daddy, trucks shouldn’t hang like that. That’s not safe. What’s that truck doing up there?” He wasn’t amazed in any way. He was just concerned that someone had strung up a perfectly good truck for no apparent reason.
